Your employer won't give you Form UI-19
By law, your employer must complete this form for you and can't refuse. Send them a written request stating your full name, ID number, and employment dates, and ask them to complete, sign, and stamp the form.
Claiming UIF for part-time work
- You must work more than 24 hours a month for that employer to qualify — under 24 hours, you're excluded from contributing and can't claim.
- You must have actually paid UIF contributions while employed.
- If you work multiple part-time jobs and lose one, you can claim for that loss even while still working the others.
Your employer never registered you
If you were paid in cash or never registered for UIF, that's illegal on your employer's part.
- Report your employer's non-compliance at your nearest Labour Centre.
- Bring proof of employment — payslips, an employment contract, or bank statements showing your salary.
- The Department will investigate, and can verify your employment using SARS records if your employer can't be found or refuses to cooperate.
- You can still claim your benefits once the investigation is complete.
UIF services are completely free. No official or agent may charge a fee to "speed up," "unlock," or process your claim — anyone who asks for money is a scammer.
