Teaching points
- Your dipped lights may not shine further than 45 m ahead so that you do not blind oncoming drivers.
- All three headlights are needed from sunset to sunrise and anytime you cannot see far enough ahead, including in rain.
- The correct answer according to South African vehicle regulations would be option C. Your high beams must illuminate the road at least 100 m ahead. And your dipped beams must illuminate at least 45 m ahead.
- According to South African law every vehicle must be fitted with rear lamps that are going to emit a red light, right? And obviously, if your vehicle is not going to have these, then it's going to be unroadworthy. And if your vehicle is going to be unroadworthy it's going to be illegal to drive, right? So, only option B is going to give us this choice. So, option B is going to be the correct answer.
