Getting your SRD grant paid into your own bank account is the fastest, safest way to get your money — and it saves you from long queues at the store.
Two golden rules
- The account must be in your own name, matching your exact ID number. Using a friend or relative's account will get your application declined.
- One account per person. If more than one person's grant is linked to the same account, SASSA will flag it as "High Risk" and stop the payments until you do a face scan.
Step-by-step: submit your bank details online
- Open your internet browser and go to srd.sassa.gov.za.
- Scroll down to the section called "How do I change my banking details".
- Type in your 13-digit South African ID number.
- SASSA sends an SMS with a One-Time PIN (OTP) to your registered number.
- Enter the OTP to open your secure profile page.
- Carefully enter your Bank Name, Account Number, and Account Type (Savings or Cheque).
- Click Submit and wait for the confirmation message.
Verification usually takes about 7 working days.
Lost your phone number?
If your registered number is lost or your SIM is inactive, you cannot get the security OTP, so you cannot update your bank details online. Instead:
- Call the SASSA helpline: 0800 60 10 11, or
- Visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID to update your phone number.
SASSA will never ask for your card PIN, your card's CVV (the 3 numbers on the back), or your OTP. Updating your details is always free.
