A quick-reference guide to the most common SRD problems people run into, beyond a straight decline.
Status check page is blank or the site won't load
This usually happens because srd.sassa.gov.za gets very busy around month-end. Don't use unofficial checker websites. Instead, use one of these free official options:
- Dial \*120\*69277# on your phone (works without data).
- WhatsApp the word "status" to 082 601 0111.
- Call the toll-free helpline: 0800 60 10 11.
"Identity Verification Failed"
This means a spelling mistake or missing middle name on your application doesn't match your Home Affairs record. Log in to srd.sassa.gov.za and use the "Request Names and Surname Update" tool to fix your details so they match your green ID book or smart card exactly.
Status stuck on "Pending" for 3+ weeks
Do not submit a new application — this creates a duplicate file and delays you further.
If it's been more than 30 days, call 0800 60 10 11 with your reference number and ask for an update.
"Bank Details Pending" or a bank verification mismatch
This means the account you loaded isn't in your name, is shared with another SRD applicant, or has a typo. Log back in to the banking section on the SRD portal, re-enter your bank, account number, and account type, and resubmit. Verification takes about 7 business days.
Approved, but no Pay Day for 3+ weeks
You're approved but haven't yet been assigned to a payment batch. Keep checking weekly — a Pay Day date will appear once you're assigned. Call 0800 60 10 11 if there's still no Pay Day after 3 weeks.
Lost your reference number
Your reference number is always shown on the status check screen on the official portal. You can also find it in past SMS updates from SASSA, or ask the WhatsApp bot.
Want to cancel or reinstate your SRD grant
If your situation has improved (for example, you got a job), log in to the SRD portal and select "Cancel My Application" to avoid being overpaid. If you lose your income again later, log back in and select "Reinstate My Application" on the same portal.
